I second Stan's and other people's opinion about the ITRC. In fact, if today
was April 1st instead of Elvis Memorial Day, I'd really think such an award
would be a joke !

That being said, I could live with ITRC and its imperfections, including
(nut not limited to..) its lack of speed, etc, if the CONTENT (what
ultimately counts for me and what I depend on for my day-to-day activities)
was OK. Problem is, the content leaves much to be desired. I already raised
the subject at HPWorld'99 in SFO, to no avail. More specifically, what I
need to work and what I'd love to get (it's highly MPE oriented) :

- Patch dependency trees, with supersedes, replacements, various versions
AND beta patches listed
- Dump analysis hints
- And more, more, more details at every level

My feeling is that ITRC contents are very poor because HP does not want to
lose support revenue. That's nonsense. In fact, as you all know, ITRC access
is available only if you have already a valid support coontract. They have
nothing to lose in enhancing ITRC content, and much to gain. Maybe genuinely
deserved awards ;-), surely more quality. And less congestion at RC logging
level.

I welcome everyone else's comments, public or private.

Objet : [HP3000-L] HP ITRC : down again? And, an award

Hi,

The HP ITRC appears to be partially down. I can get the main page,
but when I click on "more", I get a blank page (in both MSIE and Netscape).

But..hey..it isn't like I expected it to be up :)

I noticed a logo that HP should immediately remove from their web page...
"The Year's Ten Best Web Support Sites" (which changes name to "The Ten
Best Web Support Sites of 2001" when you look at the
http://www.asponline.com/awards.html page :)

Further investigation shows the winners of the top 10 in the Open Division
are:
   Cognos (support.cognos.com/support)
   Dell (premiersupport.dell.com)
   Hewlett Packard (www.itrc.hp.com)
   Macromedia (www.macromedia.com/support)
   National Instruments (www.ni.com)
   Symantec (www.symantec.com/techsupp)

and in the Small Company Division:
   4D (www.4dpartnercentral.com)
   icomXpress (support.icomxpress.com)
   Chancery-Misty City (support.mistycity.com)
   think3 (customercare.think3.com)

and:
To select this year's winners, a panel of judges evaluated 51 different
Web sites that provide support for software, PC hardware, corporate
applications, and online services. Each site was scored in terms of the
quality of its navigation, knowledgebase content, interactive features,
personalization, and success at overcoming major developmental
challenges.

For a pleasant change, no one from HP appears to have been on the judges
panel
(a change from last year, IIRC).

Still, my feeling is:

The only way for the HP ITRC to get onto a "top 10 support" list is
to have it compete against only 5 other candidates, and even then
   its chances would be slim.

I'd join the ASP for $60, but I have no respect for anyone therein who
might have voted for the ITRC :)
