Tim,

In the case of finding the files with no directory entry, I have always
been told by HP support to choose "deallocate" when it is the two files
you mentioned. Other files would cause me great concern, espically data
files. I run fscheck aprox. every 2 months prior to defraging. It
seems as if those two files always show up. I have never been given a
really satisfactory answer other than "Do not worry, this will take care
of it". I have always just fixed the issue according to HP support
instructions I received when I first encountered this issue years ago.
I always run fscheck twice. Once to fix the issues and once again to
double check.

I have a fax from HP support that provides a fix for your second
problem. I seem to remember running into that issue as well about a
year ago and the directions from HP fixed it right up. If you would
like a copy of what I have I would be more than happy to fax it to you.
Sorry no electronic copy, one of these days a scanner would be nice.

Hope this little bit helps,

jeff
