Hi Chris,
the CRLF/LF issue is not specific to the MPE version of
Samba, it also hits the Unix version (or other LanManager
compatible servers). Unlike FTP the SMB protocol seems to
make no difference between ASCII or BINARY files so there
seems no easy "fix" for this...
You might use conversion tools (either on the host or on
the PC) to adjust CRLF/LF or maybe better use an editor
on the PC that handles both "file types".
I think Neil Harvey mentioned one (freeware) called PFE
which checks for CRLF or LF when opening a file and keeps
this style during SAVE operations.
If you prefer a PC based converter there might be a nice
little drag-and-drop capable one on the Australian Samba
site (if my memory does not completely fool me).
The NMBD will not yet run in "Job Mode" i.e. with -D option
as I have not spent any time on that one... and thus the -D
still tries some become_daemon stuff I guess. As far as I
recall recent HP3000-L postings it seems to work under INETD.
(I've put the NMBD -D adjustment on my TODO list...)
