There are no references to pgp on my web page, so you must have followed a link
to somewhere else.

A pgp signature file contains a digital signature that you can use to determine
whether or not you have a genuine tar archive that was created by the authors
and not some bunch of hackers. Such files are fairly common in the open source
world, but I confess that I've never bothered checking signatures because I
always download my opensource tar files direct from the authors' web site. Of
course, if somebody hacked into the authors' web site and replaced the tar
files with something containing a trojan horse, I would never know it. Ah,
ignorance is bliss! ;-)
