Gary,

Check your permission on /etc/services? You want his file to be readable by
everyone. Something like


        chmod a+r /etc/services (from the Posix shell)

should do the trick.

mail to a remote address.

The following message also appears in my SENDMAIL stdlist.

 554 service "smtp" unknown: Permission denied


What is the problem?
