 What surprises me is that his approval ratings remain in the 
mid-thirties. I would have expected on the face of all of the evidence a

no more than half that.

 The baseline figure for support of the insupportable is the share of
the vote that guy whose
 name I forget got running against Barack Obama last year. He had
nothing to offer, a total loose cannon, 
 and got just 30%. That's bedrock, yellow-dog territory. 
 
 Of course a lot of Bush supporters don't come out and admit it these
days, they call themselves "Intelligent Design Scientists" instead. It's
less contentious.
