Many thanks to all of you who answered my previous question
regarding rc scripts in 10.01 - yes it is in TFM and no I didn't
turn the page until this morning.

Regarding my problem with my hp1511 I have some interesting
observations to share with you in the hopes of getting an
answer. Simply put; I cannot get sam or fbackup to access my
HP1511a. ioscan sees it, the driver is tape1, it is at address
44.7 (HP-IB), it has the various special files that I expect in
/dev/rmt and I can tar, mt and cpio to and from it. I cannot
get SAM to recognize it. SAM lists it in the hardware list,
along with an old 7914CT which I have configured in as my dump
device, but when I select it to do an interactive backup SAM
complains with a window screen which says:

SAM internal error
The error handler has gotten the error code 1 of type NOTE with
associated strings:
44.7
HP1511

If I try and continue (this is after all only a NOTE) I end iup
at the point where SAM complains that there is no special file
for the device in /dev and returns without doing anything.

If I try to run fbackup directly using the form:

fbackup -f /dev/rmt/0m .....

Then everything works fine. Can anybody point me in the right
direction on this? It seems that SAM must have a faulty entry
in one of its own config files but I can't seem to locate it.
There do not appear to be any entries regarding this message in
the samlog file.

Regards,
Jim
