Steve,
My bet is that you have a DNS problem. Many mail servers try to do a
reverse-DNS lookup on hosts that connect to them; if your hp3000 doesn't
have reverse DNS setup (or there's a problem resolving it) the server might
be hung-up waiting for a DNS response and take longer to respond than the
client is programmed to wait.

P.S. Especially in light of the fact that I had to send this to the list -
sending to you directly bounced due to a DNS problem... ;-)

Subject: [HP3000-L] JTMAIL problem
Hello,
I've installed JTMAIL and am getting the following error when I try to send
a message.
220 albacore.cuesta.org Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 5.0.2195.5329
ready at Tue, 29 Apr 2003 21:02:45 -0700 Socket timed out
Albacore is our SMTP server.
I've tried calling JTMAIL in a command file, from POSIX, from MPE and the
timed out message always appears and no message is sent.
I am running version 1.1.2 of JTMAIL.
Thanks,
Steve Budke
