I've recently inherited a PC API -> ALLBASE project and was wondering if
someone could clarify this situation:
I'm looking at a copy of the Tutorial Workbook from Kriss Rant's presentation
at Interex '94 titled "Client-Server Business Solutions with HP Allbase/SQL and
Image/SQL" in which he discusses the ALLBASE PC API. This workbook states that
one of the following sets of network software is required for PC clients
using TCP/IP access:
HP PC ARPA and NS for MSDOS 2.1 or
LAN WorkPlace or
FTP PC TCP/IP or
NetManage Chameleon or
Microsoft or
Walker Richer Quinn
However, the most recent version of the HP ALLBASE/SQL PC API User's Guide
states that only the following networking products can be used with TCP/IP:
HP Network Services 2.1/MS-DOS or higher or
HP ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS or higher.
Has something changed (significantly) in the last year regarding which
network products are supported? My management is under the impression they
can use their existing FTP PC/TCP licenses to access ALLBASE via PC API. But
when I try to connect on a PC/TCP machine, I'm getting a socket error. Do we
need to purchase HP NS & ARPA? Or is this another instance of HP listing only
their products when any TCP/IP stack will do?
Any information would be welcome. Thanks!

P.S. How can one take part in the C/S User's Group?
