[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 17 Mar 2000 10:57:29 +1100422_us-ascii Does anyone use this product to access TurboImage DBs via an
Allbase SQL DBE from 'foreign' systems (i.e., Compac/DEC Alpha in my
case)?

Is there a URL or a repository of information somewhere I can browse?
From the very little I understand, it looks like a very good alternative
to FTP'ing data between the two hosts and batch updates, with all
the loss of synchronicity that entails. [...]52_17Mar200010:57:[log in to unmask]

Joshua,

based on our experience, I'd recommend IT/O OpC, the HP product.
It's flexible, and you may feed it whatever you need to have monitored.

Best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany

P.S. This is my private opinion ... CSC has a deal with CA and wants to have CA
Unicenter on Unix and MPE as well like for NT and VMS (partially) but the
results are not sooooo promising, and we engineers working with OpC on MPE,
HP-UX, and AIX, do love this HP product ....

Subject: Alerting Software Question

Hello Listers,

I am looking for event notification software for the HP e3000. I am aware of
CA, OpenView and Bradmark. I am really just looking for a simple product
that does event notification. I want to be able to page and email events. I
want to monitor the OS/Hardware as well as our own job streams. Specifically
on the OS side disc and disc space, CPU, databases(locks), up and running,
network running, etc. I also need a hook in that will let me setup user
defined events. I need to be able to hook into the event notification
software by calling a command/program to send the event message from jobs,
etc. This way I can write my own monitors and have them call the event
software if necessary.

I have been tempted to write my own event notification package just using
email and then have certain types of email send pages as well. But, it would
probably be easier to buy something already written providing it does not
cost to much.

Any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Sincerely,
Joshua Johnson
