Brief status report on laudable goal (can't speak to NT):
5 year old hp3000/967 MPE/iX 5.0 (kept up to date on powerpatches): two
system aborts in the 5 years, no other major problems, with system under
considerable weekday load.

1 year old hp9000/k400 HPUX 10.10 (kept recently patched): 1 system stop
(dead console, dead system, etc.), 1 unusable system slowdown, multiple
general system slowdowns (related to networking, if I'm not mistaken), but
no panics, with system generally under light load.

YMMV
