John Lee asks:

>Is anyone aware of physical searches in the private sector?

Back in the 80's I did 24x7 system support for Intel
on a couple of pdp-11 systems that were located in a building
that had sensitive information.

I was not allowed to carry anything in or out without search
and they had an interesting mechanism for off hours access
that allowed you 'in' but you were in fact trapped in a dmz
room with video link for security. If you had anything like
a briefcase they wouldn't let you in without searching and if
you weren't on the off-hours access list they would have you
arrested for trespassing (I had a contractor badge).

With all the small storage devices today I bet they have lots
of interesting times keeping people from spiriting off data :-)
