Show how a piece of software will save time and money.  For $600, you would
 need to save 20-30 hours depending on internal rates and maybe 10 or less for
 external rates.

Also I wonder about a boss that would reject a $600 purchase for software,
 education etc.   This would be a great example for other threads to follow
 about recruiting.

I know my company has continual problem with recruiting and $600 is the least
 of our concerns.
