I just went through this issue with a customer of mine. HP told him the
same thing-- go to a VAR. However, the way I see it, I would actually
lose money by selling this small ticket item (the 50725B/UA0 lists for
$275.00). HP sets up the distribution channel so that Channel Partners
include some "value add" with the sale in order for the sale to be
allowed. In other words, we need to sell a *solution* not simply peddle
hardware. Then they turn around and tell customers like you to purchase
items from a Channel Partner like we are just retail outlets.
Bullshit! I'll tell you what I told my customer: Call the HP direct
phone number (800-637-7740) and insist that they sell you the CD-ROM
product you want. HP marketing needs to wake up! At least I'm not bitter
about it, though. ;-)
