While I can't speak for others, here's what I know.

The tools we use have been in continuous use by SunGard Bi-Tech for more
than 13 years. They are in use at more than 200 sites and are used have
been used to migrate some fairly substantial applications in the past. You
can see some details at www.xformix.com/xformmf.htm. Moreover, we're now
partnered with Sector7 a company with 200 employees who has been managing
migration projects for over 16 years. I demonstrated these tools at the
Solutions Symposium.

Our software works today (is in production) using HP-UX, AIX, Solaris. We
have an alpha version that works on Linux and will soon have an alpha
version that works on Windows. We are now engaged in a project with IBM and
Sector7 to port the toolset to the iSeries (formally AS400). We have
already ported a sample application to the iSeries.

The situation you describe and the tools limitations you describe do not
seem to apply in this case.
