Actually the Sparc version is downloadable (and licensed) for free.
Kind of makes you wonder why the x86 version is $20 8^).

Solaris for x86 has its fans, but not like Linux does. They were
able to bring it back from the dead when Sun cancelled it, though,
which says something. But it's not the new cool thing that Linux
is, and it's not open source (no matter what Sun says).
