Earlier today I posted a synopsis of a problem I have had with
installing 5.5 Express-3 using PATCH/iX on our 937rx. Basically,
I made the mistake of letting Patch/iX do everything on its own,
using its auto-qualification logic. For reasons I will explain below,
this resulted in the ODBCLINK/SE, Listf,ACCESS, and a couple of
other Express-3 components NOT BEING INSTALLED. According
to Richard at the HPRC, Patch/iX WILL NOT automatically Qualify
"enhancements" - you have to "force qualify " them manually BEFORE
you create the CSTL tape. As to why this is so, he said that it is
"by design", because many sites are on older releases of some
subsystems and it could cause them trouble (I think I'm paraphrasing
him properly). Of course, in our case we were on vanilla 5.5 and we
wanted "FULL-BLOWN" Express-3 with ODBCLINK and everything
else applicable to us on Express-3 (our Subsystems are COBOL/II,
RPG, and IMAGE/SQL). I'll leave it to others to ponder whether
Patch/iX could or should assume you want "ALL" applicable
patches/enhancements when you install an Express. At the very
least, there s/b some emphatic warning in the Patch/iX doc. that
explains that "You must force the patches marked as 'Enhancements'
if you want them. If you don't, you will have to do another PatchiX / Update
series to get ALL the Express components you want installed.". The good
news about all of this: I LEARNED A LOT!!!!!

PS: These are the 7 additional "enhancements" which I'm about
to "Force Qualify" and install in a separate Patch/ix & Update pass:
*ATCJXQ6A - B-Tree Indices
*SQLJXR2B   -    Allbase/SQL A.G2.00 ==> ODBCLINK/SE!!!
*TIXJXU4A - Turbo-Image something or another!
COBJXW6A - A new version of Cobcat.pub.sys
MPEJXR6C - The new Listf,ACCESS feature
ODIJXJ0B - Online DIAG with new H/W
OFDJXK5C - Enhanced offline DIAG's
*note: the ACT, SQL, and TI patches must go in together.
