I received a private response to my last post.. In case others
misinterpreted my post as promoting SAP, that is not the case. I was simply
pointing out the fact that the "OPEN SOURCE" database, SAPDB (www.sapdb.org)
could be a good alternative to Oracle($)...

History of SAPDB (1977 - today) www.sapdb.org/history.htm

I really don't think I needed "OT" on this one...

David:

How many 'successful' SAP implementations were you involved with, eh?

I can tell you some war stories of 10s of millions of dollars thrown out the
window...

Ahh.... this is the 3000-L...

> Dear SAP DB community,
>
> yesterday a benchmark has been approved where SAP DB showed its ability to
run large enterprise application environments. The database server was able
to handle the load of 5500 'benchmark users' of SAP's SD-benchmark-profile
(SD = sales and distribution). You can find more information using the link
http://www.sapdb.org/pdf/SD5500Benchmark.pdf or in the 'News' section of
www.sapdb.org.
>
> Although the benchmark is bound to SAP applications and thus the
description is SAP specific it shows a realistic scenario out of the sales
and distribution landscape that will be applicable for other similar
software too. One benchmark of the SAP benchmark user can be set equal to
three real life users working with SD.
>
> The benchmark was run by Fujitsu Siemens Computer on an blade technology
rack with Linux as operating system, thus with a very low TCO value. On
CeBIT further information will be available at the SAP/Linuxlab booth.
