Actually, in light of the 1000, 2000, and 3000 lines, the emphasis was
on a "growth path".  When HP needed a Un*x box, they knew darned well
that it was just a fad so they named it the 9000 series.  That way the
successive models can get progressively smaller in number.  By the year
4000, the 3000 will have accumulated (+1000) units of satisfaction, while
the 9000 will have deteriorated (-5000) units of satisfaction, and then
the HP4000 will be released, running HPUX under the MPE/iX kernel :-)
