I once spent a weekend driving in England with a free
(except for gas) rental car. It took getting used to,
that is for sure. It was a manual transmission car,
and they had the gearshift in the middle so I had to
use my left hand to change gears, because the steering
wheel is on the right. Fortunately, thank God, the
clutch, brake, and gas pedals were in the same
positions as they are in U.S. cars. Everything was
the reverse of driving here. I put about 500 miles on
the car in 3 days, including driving in the country,
in some small and medium size towns, freeways, and in
London. I would say that by the end of that, I was
getting pretty good at it, and if I had kept at it for
a couple of weeks or so, I would have been driving
like an old pro. I would not be afraid to try it
again.
