A number of our customers are buying 7980s units from the secondary market
to connect to their 9x9ks boxes (scsi). These drives are very cheap and
then you have a 'supported' configuration.
 
It is my understanding that you need a NIO style HPIB card/adapter (A1747A)
and the cost of this from HP is more than a used 7980s. Of course shipping for
the NIO HPIB is somewhat less than for a 7980s ;-)
