TRACERT is just an implementation of an IP routing protocol, similar to
PING. As long as it works at all, there's not much any particular
implementation will do to change the results.

The results are the path by which the packets get to the XXX end. If the
path is convoluted or too long, then it's a network engineer's job to
modify the router parameters to correct. TRACERT has nothing much to say
about the results. And given that routes are dynamic, the TRACERT
results and the PING delay time results can change from command to
command.

Subject: [HP3000-L] Tracert.prvxl.telesup

Hi Listers !,

I have a dillemma. Does anyone know if Tracert really works. I
seem to
get bogus data back. However I can ping this IP. The xxx's are
obviously a
valid IP in real life :)

THOR(PUB.MIS): tracert.prvxl.telesup

Enter Host Name or IP addr[Press Return to exit]:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Enter the number of hops[min=1,max=60]:

Defaulting to 25 hops

Traceroute to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx ,hops=25

To TERMINATE Press CTRL-Y

THOR(PUB.MIS): ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Hit Control Y to Break .....
