I already tried the shr;lock;gmulti but it doesn't work.

I really need to back up a little here and describe in more detail as to
what is going wrong.

I am processing circular files. This problem only occurs on circular files
(regardless of whether the program
is in privmode or usermode). I have tried both. Put a zero on the file code
 and call getusermode.

I am in a loop, thus:

START

end of list, go to EXIT loop
fopen circular file
process it
fclose
go to START

EXIT loop here.

Well, the first fopen works successfully, gives me a file num > zeroes.
Fine.

The problem occurs on the 2nd thru "n" th fopen -- the fopen fails and
gives me a file num = zeroes.

So I thought by putting the subsequent calls to fopen in its own program
that may solve the problem.
Well, it kind of solves the problem except it is giving me conficting file
numbers between mainline #1 & #2

I have been messing with this problem for over two weeks now and I cannot
figure out why the subsequent
fopen's are failing. It has me beat.

Brian.
