No sorry I don't think I am over reacting. I have seen the same plan used by
HP used in two occasions here locally. You make it as hard as possible for
the customer to use your product. Don't give the support to the product to
make it grow and flourish, and then after a few years you turn around and
say look were are not selling enough so we are shutting down. This is not
the kind of decision and planning that occurs overnight. It takes years of
back room decisions to produce the result.

Like I say I personally have seen this done in two other, (non-HP related)
businesses. The details are a long story but in one case I know real well it
took about 3 years of successful planning to force the business into
closure. This is what the owner wanted.
Believe me it can and has happened don't think HP or any other company is
above doing this sort of thing. Short term $ gain outweighs long term pain.
As long as those who are in control get what they want they do not care what
happens as long as they are happy.

Gary

the end of HP. I think that HP has made the wrong decision. Instead if
extolling the virtues of MPE they decided to bury it. There is great virtue
in being different. One thing we in the computer field know well is one size
does not fit all.

Sperry Univac, Honeywell, NCR etc. Remember the big Sperry Univac and
Burroughs (aka Unisys) merger back in the 80's they were going to be the
biggest thing since sliced bread. I cannot remember the last time I saw a
Unisys system. Can you?

career decision when I moved into the teaching field a few months ago, now I
feel better that I did. At least I can tell my students to never give
undying loyalty to a computer company, all they want is your money not your
support. Your only the person that buys their product your opinion is
meaningless, just hand over the money and shut up.
