just an n.b.:
it is a 'bad idea(tm)' to put things into /SYS/HPBIN. the same 'danger
will robinson' warning about putting things into .pub.sys apply.
imo, /usr/local/bin is a better location. (in fact, i see all of my
gnu stuff installed there)
(the strange behaviour of gzip on your system makes me wonder if you
have a sane copy of gzip, but that is another conversation) - d
