The battery is probably ok. What that message is saying it is the system is not communicating with the hard drive.
Check the cable, bent pins and terminator are all in place.

My HP927LX is not operating right now. Back in around May of this year I had the problem with the soldered on clock chip that had the internal battery inside the chip. I carefully cut away the chip, extracted the dead battery, and put a new battery holder on the outside with a new battery in it. It booted just fine back in May, but today I tried to boot it and it would not boot:

I thought maybe the battery had gone bad again, so I tore it down again and put a new battery in, testing the old battery (it was OK) and making sure there was power to the chip pins. When I tried to boot again, got the above.
