Microsoft is in for some serious competition.
With source code, it will be possible for
"everyone" with a better idea to enhance
the Netscape browser. Such cooperation
is what I believe is the true secret of the Apple II,
and therfore, Apple Corporation's original sucess.
A similar thing happened to IBM with the original
PC, they were extremely open with information
on how to interface with the thing. In each case
the add-on's and upgrades flooded the marketplace.
In fact, I believe that under these circumstances
end-users buy the product because of the
features offered in the add-on.

This is probably a good thing for everyone!

Subject: Netscape to give away it's client software

In an interesting (although not totally unexpected) development, Netscape
is making the current version of Navigator and Communicator free to
everyone,
and will post the source code to it's next version online for everyone.
