It is a string.  The reason for three vars instead of one is so that
folks that need only date info or only time info do not need to
parse HPYMDHMSM.  Yet HPYMDHMSM makes it simplier for folks that
want both date and time consistent (retrieved in an "atomic" operation).

I know!  HPYMDHMSM seems "better" (well, shorter) than the alternative:
HPCCYYMMDDHHMMSSMMM.
