There has always been a "recent trend" towards mediocrity, at least since
recorded-history times :-(

That's the whole tenet of economic theory: To minimize the use of scarce
resources. People tend to act as if resources were unlimited.

That's an interesting expression, "fat client".

This is a great new interpretation for ABC :-)

Are you referring (with the subtle "Ass" qualifier) to management for
having made the decision or to the technical guys who have to clean up (and
live with) the mess?

Who is trying, nowadays? Microsoft, for sure (they hired Jim Gray and
other leading-edge database guys). But has anything good come out, at all,
anywhere? Should we give up on HP regarding what they can/should/could do
with IMAGE? Is everything "lost" in your site, or is there a chance for
you to recover?

Watching the Clinton saga is very educational (regardless of anyone's
opinion). Things are not over until they are over and people fight to the
end with all their might. I can't quite see that kind of "fighting spirit"
in HP (but I can certainly see it in Microsoft and Oracle). So, who wins?
The "best fighting spirit" or "the best"? Your mention of "the trend
toward Oracle" says it all, because most people sheepishly follow "trends".
The human impulse to be perceived as "cool" is very strong.
