I don't remember the details, where's Larry Byler when you need him?  :-D

It is more than just that, there is a whole set of criteria that I dealt with bits and pieces thereof, and I remember some of the rules changed between the various incarnations of spoolers (classic and native), connections, and protocols.  

Your question can be complicated by:

- time the spoolfile was created/closed/last "altered"

- presence of more than one device in the target class (and presence of spoolfiles for the same devices in different classes)

- presence of special forms (I think try to stay on the same printer for all copies sequentially)

Perhaps one of our "high volume output" subscribers can enlighten us :-)
