I also use whatever device is available to ensure the version number goes into the header which is interpreted by VERSION.PUB.SYS.  This will vary by the language you are
using. I have found this helpful over the years when the source is lost or we have concerns of what source was used to compile a program.

For those of those who have not used it VERSION.PUB.SYS is a program which reads the header of an executable program and returns useful information such as version number,
etc. It is a good tool to use when matching compiled executables up against source code.
