I find this ironic. The larger the data base, the less likely it is that the
dynamic duo of DBUNLOAD/DBLOAD can offer a solution. Aside from taking up a
large chunk of disk space for a large data base, the the time required will
probably be very great. Several years ago, when we had a problem with what then
we thought was a large data base (pre-Jumbo era), the HP engineer asked when was
the last time we had performed a DBUNLOAD/DBLOAD. I just laughed.
It seems to me that whatever the need, if it is a large data base, one of the
third-party data base maintenance tools is essential. I cannot imagine using any
other tool.
(I understand that Stan Sieler's friend on a classic machine may not fit this
bill.)
