<Mild plug>

Dinu,

What you want to do can be done sucessfully. We have successfully assisted
a customer to port over 4Million lines of Fortran/IMAGE code from the HP
3000 to the HP 9000. This customer is a large applications Independent
Software Vendor who wants to become platform independent. They will
continue to offer their applications on MPE, however, competitive pressures
make it necessary for them to offer it on other platforms as well.

The database used is HP Eloquence (an IMAGE clone), the VPlus-like screens
are handled by Wingspan. This is a very complex application suite that uses
just about every HP 3000 intrinsic there is. By the way, we can also use
relational database engines to replace IMAGE. That's the good news.

The bad news is that such a project can be more expensive than staying with
the HP 3000. Doing this is not a good idea for everyone and it is
non-trivial. However, if you need to do it, <plug> we can show you how.
