Yes, you can use the $LOOKUP with SUPRTOOL updates.  I don't recall the first version of SUPRTOOL that supports this (see ROBELLE.COM to determine if your version supports the DATA parm of the TABLE command).  Anyway, once you've located the entry in the table, you can use data loaded into the table as values to update your IMAGE set entry (you can also do updates from SUPRTOOL tables via the CHAIN command).

Here is the syntax directly from the SUPRTOOL help (NOTE: cost and desc are fields extracted from a previous pass through a data set):

table partab,part,file,partin,data(cost,desc)
