One of the reasons that folks like our DataExpress product is the security
that is
built into it. The ODBCLink option of DataExpress allows an administrator
to define on a user by user basis the tables they can access. With the
DataCatalog option this security can be extended to the ability to access
"views" of fields - you ODBC application thinks of it as just another
table. Included in these views can be computational fields. If you are
really trying to get pre filtered views you can add field value security -
thus you might be able to see all the records from France and I could see
all the records from Canada ... and yet we both are using the same view
(it is just secured at the field value level by authorized ids).

As the defacto standard in ODBC drivers for the HP3000 and HP9000 we are
always pleased to help customers by adding value to meet the security and
simplicity needs for end user data access.
