I would say from a quick peruse of the list that there are some very
French names in that list even if they are listed as American Born, I
would suspect that if not natives of France they were first born
generation. There is also a suspicious one credited with being Irish
that I would suspect stands an equal chance of being French by decent,
particularly give the original trade of plasterer.

So I guess winning or loosing the bet may well hang on peoples
individual views about their nationality, and we all know that many
Americans have a great affinity for proudly claiming to be American, but
also proudly claiming to be Irish, Scots, African............ and
possibly even French.
