Ummm, well, I have some ideas and will start the ball rolling but I
seriously doubt that they're *great* ideas (no flames please):
Find the oldest 3000 still in a production shop and port the s/w it's
running to the newest HP3k.... list out the lines of code that needed to be
changed to make it run on the new 3k. Probably a very small listing, we
could have it printed on T-shirts.
Make a list of the things a 3000 doesn't do (damn, another small list)
Create a 'virtual' Walk of Fame. Have prominent HP3k supporters (those
listed above plus Wirt, Mike Yawn, etc) take turns having their footprints
scanned into a HP3k. Each year we would have these available, printed out
and taped to the floor covered in plastic for people to look at during
HPWorld. This would be kind of a Grauman's Chinese Theater thing.. like in
Hollywood. We would also induct new 'honorees' during HPWorld each year (by
standing barefoot on a scanner?). I think this reflects the irreverence
typical of HP3000-L :-)
List all the 'replacements' for the HP3k that have come and gone while the
3k is still with us. Oh boy, finally a long list.
HP users would man a booth selling HP3Ks for HP. That way there would be
people there who've actually experienced the wonderousness of the HP3000 and
MPE. Also, we wouldn't have all those Unix/NT weenies underfoot saying stuff
like "MPE?? I think that's at the WANG booth??..."
