I also use Outlook, but I do just the opposite activity. I have it
configured to delete the messages off the mail server. If OL blows, I
immediately jump on the mail server and use ELM to check the first message.
After reading, if able, I deleted it, and then restart OL. This allows me
to use OL as much as possible, saving the time of previewing all the
messages before using it. So far it's worked well, and I've only needed to
use ELM about 4-5 times during the past 12 months.
