It appears you are transferring in binary-mode.
Enter the command: asc or ascii to switch to ascii-mode.

ftp> asc
ftp> put C:.... hpname;rec=-226,,f,ascii

You can enter: help to see other commands.

ftp> help
Commands may be abbreviated. Commands are:

! delete literal prompt send
? debug ls put status
append dir mdelete pwd trace
ascii disconnect mdir quit type
bell get mget quote user
binary glob mkdir recv verbose
bye hash mls remotehelp
cd help mput rename
close lcd open rmdir

ftp> status
Connected to 10.0.1.70.
Type: ascii; Verbose: On ; Bell: Off ; Prompting: On ; Globbing: On
Debugging: Off ; Hash mark printing: Off .
ftp>

On the HP, there is a file BLDSAMP.ARPA.SYS.
It is a sample file, which can be copied to BLDPARMS.ARPA.SYS
(and edited) for what ftp would use as defaults when transfering file in
    ascii
    binary
    byte-stream
If you need or want different than those defaults,
then you need to add the ";rec=....." stuff on the put command.

Subject: [HP3000-L] FTP transfer gets truncated

Hello,
We are trying to ftp a 336 column ascii file with about 80 lines from a
windows laptop to the HP3000 but it seems to be getting truncated to 1 line.
Below is the syntax we are using. Would anyone have a suggestion on what
could be causing it? Thank you.

ftp> put C:\Reggie\CG_RP_escheatment_dma_udpate_file.txt
REGRCMJ.REGGIE.SYS;rec=-336,,f,ascii;disc=2500000
200 PORT command ok.
150 File: REGRCMJ.REGGIE.SYS;rec=-336,,f,ascii;disc=2500000 opened; data
connection will be opened
226 Transfer complete. Some records were truncated during transfer.
ftp: 29568 bytes sent in 0.12Seconds 242.36Kbytes/sec.
