To some extent, this is a printer problem. Newer networked printers have
the ability to "silent run" as did CIPER and HP2680/88 printers. This means
that the system tells them the page at which to start printing a job, then
sends the job from the beginning. The printer does everything except
actually printing, meaning that all the fonts are stored, the margins are
set, macros are set up and so on. When the printer figures out that it's
reached the specified page, it picks up printing again.

To take advantage of this, you need a printer that has the required
functionality, and you need a driver that knows how to use it. I presume
that 5.5 will take advantage of the advanced job control features in the
printer; third-party spoolers are now being enhanced to do so. But again,
make sure you have a printer that can handle it. In general, the small ones
don't and the big ones -- the ones that have configurations with the
JetDirect card preinstalled -- do.
