Hi Harpreet,

we're using Mirrored Disk/iX since a long time.

As soon as you have installed the S/W you will use MIRVUTIL to define the
new sets and volumes using the NEWMIRRSET and NEWMIRRVOL commands.
The documentation is quite good to guide you in this process.

To get an high availability setup you should have connected the disks on at
least two different SCSI cards so that the disks of each pair are served by
different cards/cables.

To move from old setup to new setup you need the BULDJOBs using the %VSACCT
option so that the accounts will be newly created for the new private
volume set.
Having done this restore the data using the ;VOLSET option.

It may be wise to add the CV and UV capability to the AMs of your system.

I will send you in a seperate eMail our process of splitting a SYS_VOL into
a new small SYS_VOL and a new PRIV_VOL. This may give you some more ideas
what need to be done.

It's also good to split the backup into one for the Sys_Vol and one for
each PRIV_VOL.

A recovery procedure can be found at http://www.hillschmidt.de/gbr/articles
, named "How to Deal with Mirrored Disks". Here you will also find a short
introduction.

That's all I can remember when we started with this excellent and stable
solution. We had some disk failures in between but because of the mirror
the user didn't realize this - we didn't loose data nor the user
connections to the system.

You're on a right track ;-)

Hope that will help, best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC, Germany
