Hello all -

We got back to back DTCs working so we can have remote access
to one of our hp3000 consoles (Thanks Lars). However that is only
when both DTCs are in the same subnet (I'll call it the home
subnet).

We moved an 3000 a couple of routers away (one router and an ATM
switch) and can't seem to get this to work. Bridging is turned on
since there is DTC traffic from this subnet back to the home subnet.

I did some LAN sniffing on the home subnet where the calling DTC is
and found out that it seems that the DTC uses both a layer 2 LLC
frame (which should bridge) and an UDP/IP broadcast packet (which
*won't* route) to find the other DTC. I suspect that this is
the problem.

Also, a couple of packets later the calling DTC does an ARP Reply
back to the called DTC. I don't see an ARP request which is how I
think this should work.

I only traced the two MAC addresses of the DTCs in this case where
things worked so I should have seen any ARP request packets between
either DTCs.

I'll shut up now and see if anyone has any ideas.
I saw Bill Bennett's message and I don't want to try that
option in this case since there is only one HP3000 at the remote
end that we need to connect to the console port.

TIA

/alan
