The following excerpted from the supportline mailing this past weekend,
should be corrected before driving the poor folks at the DDN NIC nuts with
lots of incorrect phone calls (not to mention the frustration wrought upon
the people who might call). The DDN NIC is only for DDN (Defense Data Network)
customers - those using a DDN sponsored network connection. Commercial
(and all non DDN users) must go through other routes, including (highest
preference) your Internet service provider.
 
As I understand it, the Internic (the commercial Internet folks) has stopped
working directly with end-users (or at least cannot be very responsive) due
to the tremendous demands and backlogs, and ask users to obtain network
addresses from their Internet service providers, who are assigned large blocks
of addresses for this purpose.
