AFAIK 1 to 1.5M per user, plus about 16M for the OS is the minimum
recommendation, assuming that you're not using Oracle RDBMS or similar,
and that this figure is >= 128M x No. of processors.
 
(The Nov.'95 config guide says that 1024M is O.K. for an 8-way 996 with
1000 users!)
