Yes, pour money into it and see if it runs for Congress.  :)
 
 
Seriously, I'm not sure if you can detect a problem short of doing something
like:
 
   :rename msgfile, oldmsg
   :build msgfile ; ... (same characteristics)
   :fcopy from=oldmsg; to = msgfile
 
and see if you get an error.  Even then, I don't want to bet that there
isn't some failure scenario that can result in quietly lost messages.
 
Moral: try to avoid depending on message files across system aborts.
