Hello Friends:

Wirt Atmar reported

>Xerox has been flirting with
>bankruptcy for several months now, and last Friday their stock was downgraded
>to "junk bond" status by Moody's. That's simply hard to imagine, isn't it? If
>you're going to order one of these free Xerox printers, this may be
>the time to do it :-).

As I recall, it seems that Wirt had found a way to get a free printer
from Xerox under some conditions. Perhaps he could recap the URL that
gives the details.

Motley Fool's investor site had this Xerox data:

The company announced it would lay off 200 production workers -- the
first time in more than a year that the company has fired union
workers. The laid-off employees must work until December 22 but will
receive pay and benefits through January 26. This action follows
November's decision to pink-slip 350 white-collar U.S. workers, and
both are separate from last March's decision to lay off 5,200 workers
by April 2001.

Some time back, HP and Xerox were in a death-match over who would
rule the printer supplies business. We even purchased a Xerox toner
cartridge here for our LaserJet, cheaper than HP's and with a mail-in
rebate. It looks like this round of the death-match went to HP.
