Very sad news, and there's nothing like nasty accidents to scare people off
something. Of course the socially conscious person could react to this case
by cycling rather than driving so that they are less likely to kill someone
else.

I take heart from research that suggests that on average regular cyclists
live several years longer than non-cyclists due to better health and
fitness.
