Of course you can run your web server right on the HP 3000 with Java,
Phython etc.    On the other hand, if your strategy is to go directly
to the Image database then ODBC/SQL makes the DBMS and platform mostly
transparent to the web designer from their platform of choice.

A bit of HP 3000 heresy here but once you get some help (from a
consultant for instance) to install the connectivity tools then most
any good e-commerce guy can create the rest on his favorite platform.
