If it's gone through 3 power supplies, it's almost certainly the laptop.
At a guess, it's drawing more power than it should, and so more than a 
power adapter rated for its nominal power draw can supply.

Quite why, though, I couldn't say; but I might suspect the battery. Or, 
without its proper feet, does it lacking the cooling airflow it should 
have underneath it, and so is overheating?

It might need more spending on it than the cost of a few rubber feet; 
what's your break-even/bailout point?
