If my memory does not betray me, the word legacy comes from a Latin root
("legs", or something similar), that means inheritance. So, legacy apps
would really be apps that have been inherited from some previous platform,
or that came from some earlier period.

And, after all, who would claim to have inherited anything that does not
work ?
